SMS (Shelf Monitoring System) is a Windows-based, single-thread desktop application developed using MFC, Visual C++, and OCX. This SNMP-enabled application is specifically designed for the remote monitoring and management of shelves and chassis installed in Telco/Cable headends. With SMS, network administrators can efficiently monitor individual shelves and chassis, manage firmware upgrades, and oversee the operation of daisy-chained chassis, making it an essential tool for streamlined network management.
SMS offers comprehensive remote monitoring via web and desktop interfaces, with support for configurations of 8 to 16-daisy-chained chassis. It monitors individual modules within a chassis, typically supporting 10 to 32 different RF or optical cards. The application also facilitates alarm management, including setup, clearing, and history tracking. Additionally, SMS provides trap management with time-stamped traps, batch configuration for multiple racks, and full compliance with ANSI/SCTE 38-2 2002 and SCTE HMS 063 standards, ensuring that network management processes adhere to industry best practices.
